@MAC - Twitter is a way to connect with other people. It is popular among bloggers because many use it to network and share quick (less than 140 characters) messages.
At this time, the only way you could earn money with it is if you are paid to share the links you post, otherwise it is simply another form of blogging. There are similar sites, such as Tumblr or others that allow you to post longer content and media such as images, video, etc.
