How to Maximize Entrecard

While some people think that using Entrecard is a waste of time, how much time would you have to spend to get the same amount of free traffic elsewhere? It is likely that you would have to spend time leaving comments, joining discussion boards, and emailing other people to "look" at your blog.

The truth of the matter is that Entrecard is one source of traffic for your blog. Although it can be said that it is more of a blog network and directory, there have been tools introduced (and more may be introduced) that make it more beneficial than these other methods, which all, separated, leave very little impact on your traffic.

Yes, you could leave a comment or a trackback on a popular blog, but you could advertise on a somewhat popular blog through Entrecard and receive more traffic than that comment/other method would ever deliver. Plus, you have more control over which sites you advertise on and how you interact with other members.

Compared to MyBlogLog or Blog Catalog, which are sometimes considered indirect "competitors" to Entrecard, you see more traffic through Entrecard and more overall benefits for the time and/or effort you put in.

When you think about it, Entrecard is just a service that, when used properly, is designed to help bring visitors to your blog. No promises are made, although they are sometimes implied. But like all other companies, they have to draw in visitors and new members to their site to remain in operation.

A Few Entrecard Announcements - New Forums, Manual Approval

On January 19th, a few new enhancements were added to the Entrecard system, although they might not solve all the problems and answers the questions that users are demanding.

First of all, the forums area was re-designed, using a different system, allowing non-Entrecard members to join and find out about the system, asking questions before they become members.

For some, it will take more getting used to than others. The setup is fairly similar to other forums, but quite different than the old system.

Secondly, all blogs that join the network must be manually approved. Now, this might mean that it will take more time to get your blog accepted, but there will be quite a reduction on the number of spam blogs that enter. It could also mean that you have to work to maintain a higher quality blog before being able to access the features and traffic that you will receive from Entrecard.

You can read the entire post on the Entrecard blog.

Top Droppers Day

On the last day of January, the entire Entrecard community will participate in a small event callled "Top Dropper Day."

If you are active in rewarding the people that visit your blog and drop their "card" the most often, the day shouldn't be any different than any other day. However, there will be a bigger push to get more people to reward the top 10 (or more) people that have dropped by. What you will be doing (essentially) is visiting the blogs listed on your Statistics page and linking to them and visiting their blog (if you haven't already).

There may be additional benefits to this event, including linkbacks and thank you messages published on the Entrecard blog.

Plan on marking January 31st as the day that you place at least 10 links on your site and personally thank the top people who contribute to your blog's success.

You have the opportunity to win an ad slot on the Entrecard site (a $250 value) or up to 25,000 credits (a $125 value).

Other: Even though this may look like an attempt at increasing the number of backlinks to the Entrecard site (some people won't remove the default links), Entrecard has seen a rather sudden growth in the past month, despite some more high-profile members leaving.

It is important that you post a link back on the Entrecard blog so they know that you have entered and are not just republishing their blog.
